This is off of the Dave Matthews solo album, "Some Devil". It's really simple, only about four or five chords, which allows you to play around with the voicings. I use E7 in the chorus b/c it sounds darker than E major, but it's up to you. You can use Am/G instead of G, but listen to song for when to make the substitutions.
Intro: Am - G - F - Am - G - D/F# - and back to Am
V1
Am
G
Cyrus Jones, 1810-1913,
F
Made his great-grandchildren believe
Am
That he could live to a hundred and three
G
A hundred and three is forever
When you're just a little kid
F Am
So Cyrus Jones lived forever
Chorus
Am
Gravedigger
G
When you dig my grave
E7
Could you make it shallow
Am G D/F#
So that I can feel the rain
Am
Gravedigger
V2
Muriel Stonewall,
1903-1954......
Chorus
Bridge
Dm F C G Bb
Ring around the rosy
Dm F C G Bb
Pocket-full of posies
Dm F C G Bb
Ashes to ashes
Dm
F C G (let ring)
We all fall down
Chorus
V3
Little Mikey Carson, '67-'75........
Chorus x2
Outro:
Gravedigger (hold note and play: Am - G - F - E) x4 -- End on F
NB: Don't palm-mute too much. This is the "take us home" part of the song, so emphasize the bass notes, but play it in 3:4 time (ie: think "waltz") to punch up the down-beats of every chord
Thanks a lot, enjoy......questions? comments? criticism? advice?
